TRAJECTORY
The Arquitetas Invisíveis collective aims to promote the gender equality in the field of architecture and urbanism through the recognition and promotion of the life and work of female architects who weren’t recognized by history. Created by students of the School of Architecture and Urbanism from the Universidade de Brasília, this group first initiative was meant to increase the acknowledge of students and professionals of architecture and urbanism and, at the same time, to urge the debate about gender equality in the professional and academic fields.
The Arquitetas Invisíveis has officially begun in March 8th, 2014, to honor the International Women’s Day, using Facebook to reach professionals and students of architecture from Brazil.
A few months after the web page release, we opened our first physical exhibit, showing the research produced by us. Along with the exhibit, there were organized roundtable discussions, workshops, movies and documentaries exhibitions, which aimed better comprehension of the dynamic between gender equality and professional acting, in other words, the role of women in architecture.
In March 2015, in honor to the women’s month, the collective Arquitetas Invisíveis along with the ArchDaily site published (in Portuguese, English and Spanish) a compiled about the extension of our research, promoting 48 women.
